Israel conducted airstrikes on various Hezbollah and Hamas locations in Lebanon, including the city of Sidon. Video footage on social media displayed significant damage and smoke rising over Sidon after an Israeli strike around 1 a.m. on Monday. The strikes persisted into early Tuesday.
Reports from Lebanon’s National News Agency indicated that a commercial building in Sidon’s industrial area was destroyed by the strike. Israel’s Kan TV mentioned injuries but no immediate fatalities. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that they targeted Hezbollah and Hamas sites in multiple Lebanese areas, starting on Monday.
According to IDF, the strikes aimed at weapons storage facilities and military structures used by Hezbollah to target IDF soldiers and Israel. The military also mentioned hitting Hamas weapons production sites in southern Lebanon. Israeli airstrikes targeted buildings in four villages in southern Lebanon and near the eastern border on Monday night.
The attacks occurred just before a Lebanese government meeting to discuss disarming Hezbollah near the Israeli border. The Israeli army has conducted occasional strikes in Lebanon, citing the removal of Hezbollah “threats.” Despite a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel brokered by the US and France since November 27, 2024, Israel continues these actions.
