An Israeli citizen, Vadim Kuprianov, aged 40, from Rishon LeZion, has been apprehended by Israeli authorities on suspicion of espionage for Iran. Kuprianov was reportedly seen taking photos near the residence of former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, allegedly under instructions from Iranian contacts to acquire a vehicle-mounted camera for surveillance purposes. Over the last two months, he is said to have conducted various security-related tasks, exchanging location images with his handlers for monetary compensation. An indictment against Kuprianov is expected to be filed in a central district court following the investigation.
An Israeli delegation recently visited Cairo for discussions with mediators regarding the Hamas ceasefire, particularly focusing on the repatriation of the body of the final Israeli captive believed to be held in Gaza, Master Sgt. Ran Gvili. The delegation, led by Gal Hirsch, Israel’s coordinator for hostages and missing persons, comprised members from the military, Shin Bet domestic security agency, and Mossad intelligence service. Despite the release of other captives and bodies by Hamas since the ceasefire began, Gvili’s remains are still unaccounted for in Gaza, as confirmed by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.
As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israel has freed approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and returned the bodies of numerous deceased Palestinians. Additionally, reports from Israel’s state-owned Kan broadcaster, citing US sources, suggest an upcoming US-backed peace initiative entering a second phase in January. This phase is anticipated to involve a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the establishment of an interim governing body, and the deployment of an international stabilization force.
