Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar criticized a Joint Statement by leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom regarding the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The statement expressed concern over the violence in Lebanon and called for de-escalation and engagement for a political solution. Saar labeled the statement as a “distorted view of reality,” emphasizing Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel and the targeting of civilians.
Saar highlighted that Israelis have faced unprovoked attacks from Hezbollah since October 8, 2023, and criticized the lack of condemnation for Lebanese government actions. The Israeli Foreign Minister questioned the fairness of equating a democratic state defending its citizens with a terror organization like Hezbollah. He called for the Lebanese government to halt attacks on Israel and disarm Hezbollah, pointing out the ongoing suffering of Israeli civilians.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon, targeting launch sites and dismantling command centers. The IDF issued evacuation orders for residents in specific neighborhoods in Beirut due to Hezbollah activities. Israeli Army Spokesman Avichay Adraee warned residents to leave immediately from areas with Hezbollah presence to ensure their safety amid escalating tensions.
