The Israeli military announced the killing of Hezbollah’s Bint Jbeil commander, Ali Rida Abbas, and over 150 group members in strikes just before a US-mediated truce. Abbas, the fourth Hezbollah commander in the area killed by Israel since October 2023, was a significant figure in Hezbollah’s armed wing. One soldier was killed and nine wounded in combat in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops are still present post-ceasefire.
Israel’s state-owned Kan TV reported that a soldier died from an explosive device planted by Hezbollah, marking the second Israeli military fatality post-ceasefire. Since the conflict began in early March 2026, 15 Israeli soldiers have been killed, with the military claiming to have eliminated around 1,800 Hezbollah members and targeted 300 military sites in Lebanon. Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli military stated its commitment to eliminating threats to civilians and soldiers.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, emphasized the goal of disarming Hezbollah, whether through military or political means, as a key objective.
