Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) operating in southern Lebanon possess complete autonomy to counter any immediate or potential threats to them or the northern residents. Netanyahu emphasized that both he and the Defence Minister have issued unambiguous directives to the IDF, which remain unchanged. He assured, “Our forces in southern Lebanon are empowered to neutralize any threats to them or the local populace. The IDF faces no constraints in this regard, and I offer unwavering support, as does the entire nation.”
US Vice President J D Vance shared updates on the negotiations between the US and Iran in Switzerland, highlighting significant progress. Regarding Lebanon, Vance disclosed positive developments in establishing a deconfliction mechanism to prevent escalations between Israel and Hezbollah. He mentioned, “We have successfully implemented a deconfliction mechanism to manage potential clashes.” Responding to queries about Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, Vance stressed the importance of safeguarding both Israel’s security and Lebanon’s sovereignty, indicating an ongoing dialogue on this matter.
Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz instructed the military to halt operations in Lebanon on Saturday, aligning with efforts to maintain stability in the region.
