Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US-mediated framework agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon as a step towards resolving conflicts and achieving peace. Netanyahu emphasized that the agreement strengthens Israel and Lebanon while weakening Iran and Hezbollah. He highlighted that the deal acknowledges Israel’s right to maintain a security zone in southern Lebanon for its security needs.
Under the agreement, Israel will retain control of the security zone until Hezbollah and other militant groups are disarmed. Netanyahu mentioned that a pilot program will be initiated to dismantle Hezbollah in specific areas near the security zone’s boundary. He also claimed significant losses inflicted on Hezbollah during past conflicts, including the destruction of a substantial portion of their missile arsenal.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the framework agreement, emphasizing its importance for lasting peace and security between Israel and Lebanon. The agreement, signed in Washington, D.C., aims to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, dismantle Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, and allow Israeli forces to return to their borders once security threats are eliminated.
