The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is conducting tests for the upcoming launch of Gaganyaan’s first uncrewed mission G1, scheduled for March, as part of preparations for its human spaceflight in 2027. Chairman V. Narayanan emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of the mission, mentioning the focus on enhancing the safety of the astronauts involved in the mission – Shubhanshu Shukla, Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Ajit Krishnan, and Angad Pratap.
Narayanan highlighted the rigorous qualification process every system must undergo for the Gaganyaan mission, emphasizing the need for a flawless rocket system performance. He mentioned that the G1 mission is nearly 90% complete, with over 8,000 ground tests successfully completed, setting the stage for software simulations and environmental validations to meet the planned timeline.
The G1 mission, in conjunction with the Vyommitra robot, is set for March 2026, with a focus on validating life support, re-entry, and recovery systems crucial for the mission’s success. Narayanan also addressed concerns about potential delays in the Gaganyaan mission due to recent PSLV rocket launch failures, assuring that the programs are proceeding independently, unaffected by the setbacks.
