The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have agreed to transfer the governance and operations of shooting Para sport from IPC to ISSF. This move is part of a broader plan where various para-sports are being transferred to their respective International Federations, while the Paralympic Games will remain under the IPC. The aim is to establish the ISSF as the global authority for shooting sport, promoting unity, collaboration, and visibility for all athletes.
The agreement between ISSF and IPC seeks to unify Olympic and Paralympic shooting sport under a single governance structure. It aims to ensure harmonized standards, coordinated development strategies, and a stronger position for the ISSF within the Olympic and Paralympic landscape. ISSF President Luciano Rossi emphasized the significance of this initiative for the long-term development of shooting sport, aiming to enhance global visibility, development pathways, and standards for Para athletes.
Under the terms of the agreement, the transfer of shooting Para sport from IPC to ISSF will be finalized after ratification by ISSF Member Federations at the ISSF General Assembly in late 2026. Following ratification, the ISSF will take over the governance, management, and administration of shooting Para sport from early 2027. The integration process is proposed to occur gradually over a two-year period in 2027-2028 to ensure stability, continuity, and minimal disruptions for athletes, federations, organizers, and stakeholders.
To facilitate the transfer process, the ISSF has formed an ISSF Para Working Group comprising representatives from various entities involved in shooting Para sport. This group will engage in dialogue to address the needs and expectations of the shooting sport community, ensuring a structured and consultative approach towards the integration of shooting Para sport within the ISSF framework.
