The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Kerala Congress-Joseph, part of the Congress-led UDF alliance, revealed their candidate lists for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. The IUML disclosed 25 candidates, notably nominating Jayanthi Rajan, a Hindu woman, from Kuthuparamba in Kannur district to expand its social base. Veteran leader M.K. Muneer did not feature this time due to health reasons.
In a strategic move, P.K. Kunhalikutty will contest from Malappuram instead of his usual Vengara seat, with K.M. Shaji taking his place. Key candidates include Faisal Babu in Kozhikode South and Fathima Tehliy in Perambra. The candidate lineup, featuring a mix of experienced and new faces like Jayanthi Rajan in Kuthuparamba, reflects a blend of continuity and change.
The Kerala Congress-Joseph also announced candidates for the eight seats allocated by the Congress, with P.J. Joseph stepping aside in Thodupuzha for his son, Appu John Joseph, marking a generational shift. These candidate unveilings highlight the UDF’s strategy of balancing tradition and innovation as the state gears up for elections.
