The seat-sharing discussions in the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance gained momentum with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) formally requesting five Assembly constituencies for the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. IUML leader Kader Mohideen emphasized the party’s need for at least four of the requested seats during talks at the DMK headquarters. A seven-member committee, led by senior DMK leader T.R. Baalu, is overseeing the structured negotiations with alliance partners.
The IUML delegation, headed by Kader Mohideen, was the first to engage in formal discussions with the DMK leadership. During the talks, T.R. Baalu hinted that the total number of seats allocated to alliance partners this time might be fewer than in the previous election. Mohideen disclosed that IUML had proposed adjustments in seat distribution for three constituencies, advocating for a reduction in certain segments as part of the ongoing negotiations.
Despite advocating for its interests, the IUML expressed flexibility and reiterated its dedication to the alliance. Mohideen affirmed that the party’s commitment to the DMK alliance remains steadfast, regardless of whether they are allotted five, three, or two seats. As the Assembly elections approach, the DMK is set to continue discussions with other allies to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement.
