The Jabalpur police have detained Samarth Singh upon his surrender at a Jabalpur court regarding his wife, Twisha Sharma’s alleged suicide. Singh had been missing for 10 days following Twisha’s death at AIIMS Bhopal on May 12. Authorities plan to question Singh extensively about the circumstances of Twisha’s demise, his actions post-incident, and the accusations leveled by the victim’s family.
Investigators are set to review Singh’s communications, movements before and after the incident, and his interactions with family members and other individuals mentioned in the FIR. The case has garnered significant attention after Twisha’s family accused Singh and his relatives of dowry harassment and mental abuse.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered a second autopsy on Twisha Sharma’s body, assigning a team of forensic experts from AIIMS Delhi for the examination. This decision came following a petition by Twisha’s family contesting a lower court’s denial of a fresh post-mortem. Alleging procedural irregularities in the initial autopsy report, the family requested an impartial medical assessment.
During the court proceedings, authorities were instructed to safeguard all medical and forensic evidence related to the case. The court also mandated the handover of investigation records, including the first post-mortem report, inquest documents, and forensic materials, to the AIIMS Delhi team overseeing the second autopsy.
Citing the gravity of the allegations and the case’s sensitivity, the High Court emphasized the necessity of an independent medical evaluation to ensure transparency and impartiality in the investigation. Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has approved a CBI inquiry into the matter, with the transition of the investigation to the central agency currently in progress.
