Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff honored the late filmmaker Chetan Anand on his 29th death anniversary by sharing a touching tribute on social media. Shroff posted a picture of Anand with a message commemorating him on the anniversary. Chetan Anand, a renowned filmmaker, passed away on July 6, 1997.
Chetan Anand was known as a prominent filmmaker of his era and achieved acclaim for his directorial debut film ‘Neecha Nagar’ in 1946. The movie reportedly received the Grand Prix award at the first Cannes Film Festival. Anand co-founded Navketan Films with his brother Dev Anand and later established Himalaya Films.
Throughout his career, Chetan Anand directed several well-received films such as ‘Haqeeqat’, ‘Heer Raanjha’, ‘Aakhri Khat’, ‘Hanste Zakhm’, ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’, and ‘Kudrat’. He is also credited with launching Rajesh Khanna’s acting career with ‘Aakhri Khat’.
Chetan Anand was married to writer Uma Anand, and they had two sons, Ketan Anand and Vivek Anand. Following their separation, Anand had a significant relationship with actress Priya Rajvansh, who appeared in many of his films. After Chetan Anand’s demise, Priya inherited a portion of his estate.
In a tragic turn of events, Priya Rajvansh was found murdered at Chetan Anand’s residence in Juhu in March 2000. Subsequently, Ketan Anand, Vivek Anand, and two domestic aides were arrested in connection with the murder. In 2002, a sessions court convicted all four individuals, sentencing them to life imprisonment.
