Jackie shared a snippet of Suraiya and her song “Nainon Mein Preet” from the 1950 film “Dastan” on his Instagram stories.
Suraiya, a celebrated actress of Indian cinema, acted in over 70 films and sang 338 songs during her career from 1936 to 1964. She was highly acclaimed for her diverse on-screen roles and was a prominent figure in the 1940s and 1950s. Suraiya’s talent and charisma earned her more than her male counterparts in the industry.
Starting her career at a young age, Suraiya sang her first song at 12 and made her acting debut in the film “Taj Mahal.” She went on to star in numerous successful films like “Ishaara,” “Tadbir,” “Phool,” and “Anmol Ghadi,” solidifying her position as a leading actress in Hindi cinema.
Suraiya’s career peaked with hits like “Vidya,” “Pyar Ki Jeet,” and “Dillagi,” which garnered her immense popularity. Her final film, “Rustam Sohrab,” marked the end of her acting journey due to health issues. Suraiya passed away after battling various ailments, including hypoglycemia and insulinoma.
