Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that the upcoming state election will center around MAVIGUN versus Amaravati. YSRCP supports MAVIGUN, a state capital corridor proposal encompassing Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur. Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasized that the party will highlight this contrast in its manifesto.
The opposition to Amaravati as the state capital stems from allegations of corruption, according to Jagan Mohan Reddy. He criticized the excessive payments to contractors under the Amaravati project, advocating for MAVIGUN due to its natural advantages and existing infrastructure. The political divide is clear as Jagan Mohan Reddy positioned YSRCP in favor of MAVIGUN and Chandrababu’s supporters backing Amaravati.
Addressing the Dalit Christian issue, Jagan Mohan Reddy accused TDP leaders of stoking caste and religious tensions, urging Chandrababu to clarify his party’s stance. He highlighted YSRCP’s support for the issue before the Justice Balakrishnan Commission. Jagan Mohan Reddy condemned the coalition government’s failure in maintaining law and order, alleging misuse of police forces for political purposes.
Under the slogan “Hey Ram, Save Andhra,” Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized Chandrababu for allegedly manipulating the police against political opponents. He cited incidents like the Undavalli attack where victims were falsely accused, illustrating what he described as a deteriorating law and order situation. Jagan Mohan Reddy vowed to stand by victims of injustice despite what he termed as a “Jungle Raj” prevailing in the state.
