External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi regarding the evolving situation in and around Iran. The call occurred late Wednesday evening, with both ministers engaging in talks about the current scenario.
Following the conversation, New Delhi issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals concerning Iran due to recent developments in the country. The advisory strongly recommends that Indian citizens refrain from traveling to Iran until further notice, considering the ongoing circumstances.
On January 5, India had already advised its nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Iran due to the situation in the country. Indian citizens and PIOs in Iran are urged to exercise caution, avoid protest areas, and stay updated through the Embassy of India in Tehran’s website and social media platforms.
Iran is experiencing violent protests in various cities, leading to casualties and heightened tensions in the region. The United States has also advised its citizens to leave Iran immediately, suggesting departure by land to Armenia or Turkey amidst escalating protests and security concerns.
