External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a detailed conversation with Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia and bilateral relations. Both ministers agreed to maintain close communication following the phone call. The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi confirmed that the discussion covered the ceasefire, bilateral ties, and regional and international issues.
Araghchi recently concluded visits to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia amid escalating tensions in West Asia. He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Saint Petersburg, where Russia reiterated its commitment to peace in the region. Araghchi expressed gratitude for Russia’s support for diplomatic efforts, highlighting the strength of the strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi previously spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing the security situation in West Asia. During their conversations, PM Modi condemned attacks on critical infrastructure and stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and secure shipping lanes. Both leaders underscored the need for dialogue and diplomacy to address regional tensions and conflicts.
