External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in a productive discussion with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the G7 Foreign Affairs Ministerial in Cernay-la-Ville, France. Rubio is set to meet with foreign ministers from partner nations to address shared security concerns and collaboration opportunities, focusing on global issues like the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Middle East situation. Jaishankar emphasized the significance of freedom of navigation for global economic security during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, discussing various threats and sovereignty matters.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed intentions to discuss security challenges and global issues with world leaders at the G7 Ministerial in France. Jaishankar also had a brief meeting with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during the event. Additionally, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of UN Security Council reforms and humanitarian supply chain strengthening, addressing concerns related to energy challenges and food security at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
During the G7 Ministerial, Jaishankar underscored the need for resilient trade corridors and supply chains, especially in light of conflicts in West Asia. He appreciated the support for the IMEC initiative and emphasized the role of India’s trade agreements with the European Union, EFTA members, and the UK in enhancing connectivity.
