External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently met with members of the European Parliament, led by Angelika Niebler, in New Delhi. They discussed enhancing the relationship between India and the European Union, expressing optimism about the future collaboration. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of the European Parliament’s support in this evolving phase of bilateral ties.
The India-European Parliament Parliamentary Friendship Group convened its inaugural meeting at Sansad Bhavan on the same day. Anurag Thakur, the BJP MP and President of the group, emphasized the significance of such interactions in bolstering parliamentary diplomacy and fostering stronger India-EU relations. Thakur acknowledged the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Speaker Om Birla in this endeavor.
During a recent visit to Brussels, Jaishankar engaged in fruitful discussions with EU leaders and foreign ministers, focusing on the vast economic opportunities presented by the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. He underscored the pivotal role of this agreement in advancing cooperation in various sectors such as trade, technology, security, and connectivity. Jaishankar also highlighted the agreement as a transformative milestone in India-EU relations, emphasizing the shared goal of strengthening supply chains and fostering deeper business connections.
