External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Finnish President Alexander Stubb during the Kultarana Talks in Helsinki. They discussed the evolving geopolitical situation and emphasized the importance of diplomacy in a changing global environment.
Both leaders exchanged views on advancing the Strategic Partnership in Digitalisation and Sustainability between India and Finland. They also highlighted the need for coordination in multilateral forums on shared interests. Jaishankar participated in discussions on ‘Emerging Powers and the New Geopolitical Competition’ with foreign ministers from Finland and the UAE.
During the talks, Jaishankar stressed the need for the international community to address ongoing conflicts to reduce their impact and create conditions for diplomacy. He also emphasized the importance of de-risking and diversifying supply chains in an increasingly volatile world.
Furthermore, Jaishankar discussed India’s energy choices, guided by national interest and affordability. He underscored the significance of India’s relations with the Gulf region, focusing on people-to-people ties, energy cooperation, and strategic defense partnerships. The minister highlighted the evolving nature of warfare and the potential for increased defense and strategic cooperation between India and the EU.
In addition, Jaishankar mentioned the recent milestones in India-EU relations, including the Free Trade Agreement, Strategic and Defense Partnership, and Comprehensive Mobility Cooperation Framework. He also met with UAE Foreign Minister of State Nusseibeh to review the progress in their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest.
