External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with United Nations General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock in New Delhi. They discussed UN80, sustainable development goals (SDGs), Artificial Intelligence (AI) implications, and the ongoing West Asia conflict. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of updated multilateralism that reflects current global realities, especially those of the Global South.
Baerbock, during her visit to India, paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat in Delhi. The UNGA President’s trip to India, at the invitation of Jaishankar, underscores India’s consistent involvement with the UN. Additionally, Baerbock is set to engage in a session with officials from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY) on AI governance and regulation.
Baerbock is also scheduled to meet with the UN team in India, led by Resident Coordinator Stefan Priesner.
