External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, accompanied by Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and Industry and Mining Minister Gongor Damdinnyam, inspected the progress at the India-assisted Mongol Refinery Project. Jaishankar engaged with the project’s workforce, expressing gratitude for their dedication under challenging conditions. The project, supported by a USD 1.7 billion Line of Credit from India, is a key element of Mongolia’s sustainable energy strategy.
The delegation received a warm welcome from Sainshand town’s leadership and the Mongol Oil Refinery LLC team. Altantsetseg, the Executive Director, briefed Jaishankar on the project’s advancements, including the arrival and assembly of essential equipment. Notably, the construction of a 520 km crude oil pipeline is nearing completion, with Jaishankar pledging India’s comprehensive support for the project’s success within the agreed timeline.
During his official visit to Mongolia, Jaishankar held discussions with Mongolian officials, emphasizing the strong bilateral ties rooted in shared values and aspirations. He highlighted the significance of the oil refinery project in enhancing bilateral cooperation. Jaishankar also met with key Mongolian figures, reaffirming India’s commitment to fostering people-centric development partnerships.
