Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Vice President Malik Mohtasim Khan expressed strong opposition to the mandatory singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ in West Bengal madrasas. Khan emphasized that patriotism and respect for the nation should not be enforced through compulsion. He highlighted that individuals and institutions should have the freedom to choose whether or not to sing ‘Vande Mataram’.
Khan pointed out that the government should not impose compulsory singing of ‘Vande Mataram’, as it contradicts the Supreme Court’s directives. He stated that while those willing to sing the song should be allowed to do so, no one should be forced. Khan also addressed the issue of cow slaughter restrictions during Eid al-Adha, suggesting that Muslims have alternative options for sacrifice like buffaloes, goats, sheep, and rams.
Regarding the impact of restrictions on cattle trade, Khan argued that such measures negatively affect the rural economy and livestock business. He highlighted the dependence of the rural economy on animal trade and expressed concerns about the economic repercussions of restricting cattle trade. Khan also called for communal harmony and urged restraint, especially during the festival season.
