Filmmaker James Cameron has expressed his displeasure at a joke made by Amy Poehler at the Golden Globes. Cameron referred to Poehler’s joke about his marriage to Kathryn Bigelow as an “ignorant dig.” The joke was made during the 2013 Golden Globes, where Bigelow was a nominee for best director for ‘Zero Dark Thirty.’

Cameron mentioned in an interview that he felt Poehler’s joke went too far and was not in line with the celebratory nature of the event. He expressed his thick skin towards good-natured jokes but felt this particular one crossed a line. The filmmaker highlighted the rivalry between him and Bigelow during the awards season when ‘Avatar’ competed against ‘The Hurt Locker.’

During the 2009-2010 awards season, Cameron and Bigelow were pitted against each other, with Bigelow ultimately winning the Oscar for best director. Cameron acknowledged applauding Bigelow’s win and found the meta-narrative surrounding them amusing. However, he expressed concern that the focus was shifting away from Bigelow’s work as a filmmaker.
