The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Jamia Millia Islamia has successfully trained the first batch of women entrepreneurs in the ‘Basics of Leadership Development’ program under the Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan Scheme (PM VIKAS). Fully funded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the project aims to train 450 women in leadership and entrepreneurship with guidance from Vice Chancellor Professor Mazhar Asif.
The inaugural batch completed the program on April 22, with a certificate distribution ceremony held on May 8 as per a statement from JMI. Neha Giri, IAS, Director of PM VIKAS at the Ministry of Minority Affairs, graced the ceremony and commended CIE for empowering youth through leadership and skill development initiatives. She urged participants to enhance their communication, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills to contribute meaningfully to nation-building and community development.
During the event, Giri emphasized the significance of capacity-building programs like PM VIKAS in nurturing confident, skilled, and self-reliant youth. The Ministry of Minority Affairs delegation also met with the university’s Vice Chancellor and Registrar, Professor Rizvi, acknowledging JMI’s efforts in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill-based education. Professor Rihan Khan Suri, Director of CIE, outlined the Centre’s activities, including entrepreneurship development programs, innovation initiatives, and startup ecosystem support for students and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to successful participants and a vote of thanks to dignitaries, faculty members, trainers, and students for their active involvement and support in ensuring the program’s success.
