Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis expressed gratitude to her mother, Janet Leigh, also an actress, for delaying her entry into horror films. Curtis revealed that a producer once wanted her to audition for ‘The Exorcist’ when she was around 12 years old, but her mother declined the offer to safeguard her childhood. Despite missing out on early fame, Curtis later became a prominent figure in the horror genre, starting with her breakout role in the 1978 film “Halloween.”
During an appearance on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show,’ Curtis recounted how her mother prioritized her having a normal childhood over early stardom. Reflecting on her mother’s decision to protect her from the potential challenges of showbiz at a young age, Curtis appreciated the opportunity to grow up away from the limelight. This nurturing environment allowed Curtis to establish herself in the horror genre in her late teens, eventually becoming a well-known figure in films like ‘The Fog,’ ‘Prom Night,’ and ‘Terror Train.’
In contrast to her childhood friend Drew Barrymore, who started acting at a very young age, Curtis acknowledged the importance of her mother’s decision to shield her from the pressures of early fame. Barrymore’s early role in ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ at the age of seven highlighted the divergent paths taken by the two actresses in their formative years. Despite missing out on certain opportunities in her youth, Curtis went on to carve a successful career in horror films, culminating in her reprisal of the iconic character Laurie in the 2022 movie ‘Halloween Ends.’
