Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah engaged with civil society members at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar, offering prayers for the Iranian Supreme Leader and others affected by recent events in Iran. The Chief Minister, in response to concerns expressed by participants over the situation in West Asia, stressed the need for peace and harmony in the region while ensuring respectful and peaceful expressions of grief and mourning.
This marks CM Omar Abdullah’s first meeting with Kashmir’s civil society since the onset of US-Israel attacks on Iran. The interaction included prominent figures such as religious leaders, social activists, and business representatives. Abdullah has condemned the attacks on Iran, asserting that any regime change decisions should be made by the Iranian people without external interference.
Omar Abdullah has been actively coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the safe return of Kashmiri students studying in Iran. Prior to the conflict escalation, he had urged parents to heed the Ministry’s advisory and bring back their children before Iranian airspace closure. Meanwhile, strict measures are in place across the Valley to maintain order, with educational institutions closed until March 7 and internet speed reduced to curb the spread of provocative content on social media.
