Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah engaged with a senior delegation from the education sector in Bengaluru, emphasizing the prospects arising from the recently enacted Jammu and Kashmir Private University Act. The meeting, attended by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, and various education representatives, focused on inviting investments in higher education to establish Jammu and Kashmir as a dynamic academic center.
The Jammu and Kashmir Private Universities Bill, 2026, was approved by the Union Territory’s Legislative Assembly during the recent Budget Session, receiving commendation across party lines for its significant impact on higher education in the region. With the legislation now in effect following approval from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the Act’s potential to attract renowned institutions to set up campuses in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering a contemporary and globally competitive higher education environment.
Underlining the government’s dedication to facilitating quality investments in education, Abdullah encouraged leading institutions to collaborate in shaping the academic landscape of the region. He stressed the administration’s commitment to providing a transparent and supportive atmosphere to attract students, scholars, and research partnerships nationally and internationally.
During a separate meeting with filmmakers from Karnataka in Bengaluru, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah promoted Kashmir as an ideal destination for outdoor shooting, showcasing its natural beauty, varied landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. He assured full government support and a conducive environment for artists, expressing the commitment to streamline filmmaking processes in Jammu and Kashmir.
