Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently discussed the safety of students from the region studying in Iran with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Abdullah expressed gratitude for the assurance from Jaishankar regarding the protection of students and others from J&K currently in Iran.
Thousands of students, including many from Kashmir, are stranded in Iran amidst the ongoing volatile situation, causing anxiety among parents about their well-being. Former CM Mehbooba Mufti has also urged Jaishankar and the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene promptly and ensure the safe return of these students.
In J&K, a significant number of students, particularly those pursuing MBBS, hail from the Valley. Additionally, numerous Shia Muslims from the region visit Iran annually for religious purposes, with families anxiously awaiting the return of their loved ones currently in Iran.
