The Jammu and Kashmir government announced its plan to submit a review petition in the Supreme Court regarding the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) matter concerning the territory’s teachers. UT Education Minister Sakina Itoo emphasized the government’s consistent efforts to protect the teachers’ interests. She confirmed the government’s decision to file a review petition and highlighted the proactive approach taken in this regard.
The government has sanctioned the filing of a review petition, with the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs instructing its Standing Counsel to commence the legal process. Minister Itoo reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the teachers’ interests. This move is seen as a significant step towards addressing teachers’ concerns over the TET issue and seeking legal recourse through the Supreme Court.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti criticized the previous government for neglecting teachers’ interests, expressing solidarity with the teachers facing uncertainty. The TET issue pertains to a Supreme Court mandate requiring in-service teachers hired after August 23, 2010, to pass the TET within a specified timeframe for job continuation and promotions. Experienced teachers argue that this mandatory testing overlooks their service tenure, qualifications, and expertise.
