In a significant achievement in combating cross-border narcotics smuggling, the Jammu and Kashmir Police discovered a heroin consignment weighing approximately 1.5 to 2 kg in the Bishnah area close to the International Border with Pakistan. The police acted on intelligence gathered over the past week, preventing the heroin from reaching its intended recipients after it was dropped through a drone along the border. Teams from the Jammu Headquarters Zone, based on precise intelligence, maintained constant vigil in suspected sectors, leading to the interception of the illicit payload during the early hours of Wednesday.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is en route to the location to conduct a detailed analysis of the seized contraband and collect crucial scientific evidence. This seizure is hailed as a significant success in the battle against narco-terrorism and cross-border smuggling networks by the police. Described as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Jammu Police, the operation underscores the force’s heightened vigilance and tactical prowess in countering modern technological threats like drone-based smuggling from across the border.
Efforts are underway to comprehensively investigate and trace the network involved in the smuggling operation, both in Pakistan and within Indian territory. This interception of heroin dropped via a drone coincides with the ongoing 100-day-long Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan initiated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 6. The Lieutenant Governor has announced stringent punitive actions against drug trafficking, including the revocation of driving licenses, passports, and Aadhaar cards, as well as the confiscation of properties acquired through proceeds from the drug trade. L-G Manoj Sinha has been at the forefront of anti-drug campaigns across various districts, urging citizens to collaborate with the administration in eradicating the menace of narco-terrorism to safeguard future generations from drug abuse.
