The Jan Suraaj Party faced a major setback before the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar as some of its key members switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). State BJP President Sanjay Saraogi officially welcomed these leaders into the BJP in the presence of senior party officials.
This development is crucial as Jan Suraaj’s founder, Prashant Kishor, is contesting the Bankipur by-election. Notable figures like K.C. Sinha and Ritesh Ranjan Singh, who were prominent in their constituencies, have left Jan Suraaj to join the BJP, impacting the party’s prospects in the upcoming bypoll.
Several other leaders, including Gopal Singh, Vinita Bittu Singh, and Dr. Kishore Kumar, also joined the BJP along with their supporters during the induction event. State BJP President Saraogi highlighted that leaders from various political backgrounds were joining the BJP due to its ideology and the developmental work led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The defections are anticipated to alter the political landscape of the Bankipur Assembly by-election, which has garnered significant attention in Bihar. The bypoll was triggered by the resignation of former BJP MLA Nitin Nabin, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha after representing Bankipur for four consecutive terms. Voting for the Bankipur by-election is set for July 30.
