Jan Suraaj convener Prashant Kishor has declared that his party will participate in the upcoming Bankipur Assembly by-election, directly taking on the BJP in what is considered one of the party’s key urban strongholds in Bihar.
Speaking at a public gathering in Sheohar, Kishor emphasized that a single political family linked with the BJP has dominated Bankipur politics for the past four to five decades, with other parties like the RJD and Congress failing to dislodge them.
Kishor stated, “This time Jan Suraaj aims to breach the BJP’s stronghold and emerge victorious.” He asserted that his party would be the sole contender offering a genuine challenge in the constituency.
The Bankipur Assembly seat has traditionally been controlled by the Nitin Nabin family, with Nitin Nabin succeeding his father Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha and reinforcing the BJP’s hold on the area.
Jan Suraaj’s decision has injected a fresh dynamic into Bihar’s political scenario, especially as the party strives to establish itself as a significant alternative in urban areas.
The upcoming Bankipur by-election is now seen as a crucial test of Jan Suraaj’s organizational capabilities and Prashant Kishor’s strategy of positioning the party as a contender against both the BJP-led NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan in Bihar politics.
