Jana Sena Party, led by Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, will be contesting 336 seats in the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana. The party has nominated 336 candidates, and their nominations have been accepted for the polls. These candidates will be contesting on the party’s symbol, a glass tumbler.
The party is fielding candidates in 336 wards across 11 districts in Telangana. Notably, the highest number of candidates, 48, are from Nizamabad district, followed by 46 in Nalgonda, 44 in Mahabubnagar, and 39 in Adilabad. The municipal elections, scheduled for February 11, will cover 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations in the state, with a total of 2,996 wards.
While Jana Sena is part of the TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh, it is not forming an alliance with the BJP for the Telangana municipal polls. The Telangana BJP has confirmed that it will independently participate in the elections. Pawan Kalyan, the Jana Sena chief, is set to campaign for both Jana Sena and BJP candidates on February 7 and 8, aiming to strengthen their presence at the grassroots level.
The party emphasized that the candidates from Jana Sena and BJP are competing in a friendly atmosphere, focusing on the welfare of Telangana. Pawan Kalyan will campaign on behalf of the NDA during the polls, with a detailed schedule to be announced soon. However, there is uncertainty regarding his visit as no further updates have been provided by Jana Sena.
A total of 12,944 candidates are vying for positions in the municipal elections, with 14 candidates already elected unopposed. Among them, 12 belong to the ruling Congress, and two are from the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
