Hollywood icon Jane Fonda is set to lead in a new movie version of ‘The Correspondent’. Lionsgate secured the project after a competitive bid, with Fonda taking on both acting and producing roles. The film, based on Virginia Evans’ bestseller, follows the story of retired lawyer Sybil Van Antwerp, who grapples with past grief through letters.
The novel, a Crown publication, has sold over 1 million copies and spent 17 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Lionsgate will manage the production, with Todd Lieberman and Jane Fonda among the producers. Erin Westerman of Lionsgate expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate on this emotionally resonant project.
“This book is a phenomenon,” said Todd Lieberman, thrilled to work alongside Jane Fonda and Lionsgate. Fonda, a two-time Oscar winner, brings her extensive experience to this project. Her producing credits include acclaimed works like ‘9 to 5’ and ‘Grace and Frankie’, showcasing her multifaceted talent across film, TV, and activism.
