Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi is set to visit India in August to meet with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This visit marks Koizumi’s first trip to India since taking office last October. The agenda includes discussions on defense equipment cooperation, such as the potential export of Japan’s Unicorn communication antenna system to India, as reported by Jiji Press.
Koizumi and Singh will also explore enhancing joint exercises between Japan’s Self-Defense Forces and the Indian military. The talks are expected to cover the Indo-Pacific region’s situation, focusing on China’s activities, according to the report.
India and Japan recently engaged in the 8th Defence Policy Dialogue in Tokyo on July 13, emphasizing deeper collaboration in various areas like defense industrial cooperation, cyber security, and space. Both countries expressed satisfaction with their increasing alignment on regional and global security matters, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
The dialogue highlighted the broad spectrum of bilateral defense engagements, encompassing military exchanges, maritime cooperation, capacity building, and technology collaboration. The importance of regular high-level exchanges and dialogue mechanisms to sustain and expand defense cooperation was underscored.
During the Tokyo meeting, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Japanese Minister of Defence Shinjiro Koizumi, reinforcing the strong India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The discussions covered regional security, maritime cooperation, defense industrial collaboration, and the shared commitment to a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region.
