Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar highlighted the issue of artists not owning their hits during the launch of the Goongoonalo app. He emphasized the importance of creators having rights to their work and future. Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan praised the app for empowering artists to create without fear or compromise.

The Goongoonalo app, with 100 original songs on its debut, marks a new artist-led platform in India’s music scene. It ensures that every collaborator co-owns the music they create and retains copyright, allowing creators to be investors in the ecosystem. Co-founder Sridhar Ranganathan emphasized building technology that fosters a direct connection between artists and fans.

The platform’s transparency and fair participation were highlighted by CEO Sherley Singh, who stressed the importance of creators having ownership and clarity. The event saw artist investors like Javed Akhtar, Shankar Mahadevan, and others, along with guests from the music and film industry, supporting this collaborative and community-driven approach.
