Javid Ahmad Kitab has officially taken over as the President of the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) after a petition before the Supreme Court was withdrawn, leading to the vacation of an interim order related to the JKCA elections. The election results were overseen by former Chief Election Commissioner of India, A.K. Jyoti, enabling the new body to assume control of the association.
Kitab highlighted that the new administration’s focus will be on development and integrity, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and respect. He assured stakeholders that decisions and activities would adhere to the association’s rule book, with a commitment to development, transparency, accountability, and honesty. The association will soon communicate a detailed schedule for future administrative operations to all concerned members.
Desh Rattan Dubey, Vivek Khajuria, Rajan Singh, Anil Kumar Koul, and Rakesh Koul have also assumed their roles as Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Apex Council Members, respectively. This transition marks the end of a contentious administrative period that began in 2017 when the elected body was removed by the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, leading to the appointment of Court-Appointed Administrators (CAA) and CEO Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari to manage the association.
The High Court’s intervention, which was initially intended as temporary, lasted nearly four years until March 2021 when the BCCI was directed to oversee JKCA and ensure fair elections. Despite delays, the recent election process faced controversies, including allegations of electoral roll manipulation and procedural irregularities. Following the withdrawal of the petition by aggrieved clubs, the Supreme Court lifted the stay on the election results, allowing the elected body to officially assume office.
