Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan expressed strong disapproval of the increasing VIP culture in Delhi, stating that it disrupts the lives of ordinary citizens and compromises the dignity of elected officials. She highlighted how the frequent movement of VIPs in the capital leads to road closures, traffic diversions, and significant delays for the public. Bachchan shared a personal experience where she and other MPs were made to wait as the main gate of Parliament was closed for VIP movement, deeming it the most humiliating incident in her 22-year parliamentary career.
Such instances, according to Bachchan, are not limited to Parliament but also affect various localities in Delhi where senior political figures reside, causing road closures and travel difficulties for MPs. She emphasized that the VIP culture not only inconveniences the public but also hampers emergency services like ambulances, potentially endangering patients in critical conditions. Bachchan urged the Rajya Sabha Chairman to address this issue with the government to eliminate VIP culture and ensure the smooth functioning of democracy.
The MP stressed the importance of respecting taxpayers and preserving democratic values by putting an end to VIP privileges. She warned that persistent public inconvenience could escalate into situations like road rage, emphasizing the need for immediate action to rectify the situation.
