Senior Janata Dal-United leaders supported Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s decision to join the Rajya Sabha, but party workers in Patna expressed strong resentment on Thursday. Protests erupted from the Chief Minister’s residence to the party’s state office, with workers raising slogans and vandalizing furniture.

The agitated activists targeted veteran party leaders, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, JD-U Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha, and Bihar Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Ashok Choudhary. They alleged a conspiracy between these leaders and the BJP to weaken the party and oust Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister.

Tensions rose when Janata Dal-United Legislative Council member Sanjay Gandhi was reportedly manhandled by protesting party workers at the office. Sources mentioned that Sanjay Gandhi faced obstruction while leaving the premises amid continuous sloganeering before finally exiting through the main gate.

Nitish Kumar’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha, filed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, hints at a forthcoming leadership change in Bihar. This move has stirred dissatisfaction among some JD-U members, with concerns raised about a potential BJP Chief Minister in Bihar.
