The Karnataka unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) has accused officials conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Ramanagara of breaching Election Commission guidelines. Instead of door-to-door verification, residents were reportedly gathered at a community hall in Ward No. 23 of Tippu Nagar. The party, through a statement shared by H.D. Kumaraswamy’s office, called for strict action against those responsible for this deviation.
The JD(S) criticized the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for not adhering to the mandated voter verification process and distributing enumeration forms. They claimed that the officials’ actions in Ramanagara disregarded the Election Commission’s rules and turned the exercise into an ‘SIR fair’ at a Kalyana Mantapa. The party emphasized the seriousness of the situation, labeling it as a mockery of democracy.
Demanding immediate intervention from the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, and the Election Commission of India, the JD(S) urged for swift and severe action against the alleged violators. They stressed the need for accountability and called for the suspension of officials found responsible for these irregularities.
The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka has faced allegations of misconduct. The JD(S) highlighted a video purportedly showing officials conducting the voter revision exercise at a choultry in Ramanagara city, deviating from the prescribed door-to-door verification process. The party’s concerns add to the growing scrutiny of the electoral roll revision process in the state.
