Janata Dal (United) has revealed its candidate lineup for the 2026 biennial elections and by-elections to the Bihar Legislative Council. The party’s state president, Umesh Singh Kushwaha, officially disclosed the names. Nishant Kumar, Bharti Mehta, Shivani Devi Prajapati, and Lalan Prasad are the nominees for the three Legislative Council seats.

Nishant Kumar, the Health Minister of Bihar, hails from the Backward Class community. His father, Nitish Kumar, a former Chief Minister of Bihar, is currently a Rajya Sabha Member. Bharti Mehta, from Madhubani, serves as the JD(U) State President of the Women’s Wing and party spokesperson, representing the Extremely Backward Class (EBC) community.

Shivani Devi Prajapati, an EBC community member from West Champaran, is known for her organizational leadership within the party. Lalan Prasad, associated with Nitish Kumar since the Samata Party days, is from Sheikhpura district. The party emphasizes a balanced representation of social groups and regions in its candidate selection.

The JD(U) is actively preparing for upcoming electoral challenges in Bihar, focusing on diverse representation in its candidate choices. The party’s candidate list also includes nominations for the 2026 Bihar Legislative Council biennial elections and by-elections. The Bihar Legislative Council election for 10 seats is scheduled for June 18.
