JD(U) MP, Sanjay Kumar Jha, criticized Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for questioning the delay in implementing delimitation and the Women’s Reservation Bill during the Congress-led UPA government. Jha expressed surprise over these measures not being enforced earlier and questioned the reasons behind it.
During the UPA era, Jha mentioned that Nitish Kumar had supported the Women’s Reservation Bill in Delhi, emphasizing the need for its implementation. He highlighted the current process as a crucial political and constitutional juncture, emphasizing that the Bill’s introduction would lead to delimitation and an increase in the number of seats based on population.
Jha took a swipe at the Congress, accusing them of raising issues unnecessarily. He described the situation within the Congress as one where every matter is turned into a controversy.
Sonia Gandhi, in an article in The Hindu, criticized the Centre’s plan to introduce Bills during a special Parliament session on April 16. She expressed concerns over delimitation, calling it a threat to the Constitution. Gandhi also accused the government of hindering the caste census and criticized the legislative timing coinciding with election campaigns in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The political discourse intensifies as both sides engage in sharp exchanges ahead of the special parliamentary session, with allegations flying over constitutional and electoral reforms.
