Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren highlighted various issues concerning his state during the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He urged the Centre to release pending funds for the Jal Jeevan Mission and clear around Rs 1.36 lakh crore in dues owed by coal companies to the state.
Soren emphasized the need for simplifying land acquisition processes and approving pending medical college projects. He stressed that Jharkhand should be seen as more than just a mineral-producing state but as a potential hub for industry, manufacturing, and a knowledge-based economy.
The Chief Minister advocated for maximizing the state’s mineral resources, human capital, and agricultural potential to contribute significantly to the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision. He also sought the Centre’s assistance in developing industries based on critical minerals and establishing research institutions and innovation centers.
Soren underlined the importance of attracting investments in sectors like textiles, electronics, green energy, logistics, and agro-food processing. He also outlined initiatives in education, health, and skill development, proposing the expansion of PM SHRI schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and a regional NCERT center in Jharkhand.
In terms of skill development, Soren mentioned the Sarathi scheme training youths for emerging sectors like artificial intelligence, drones, electric vehicles, and solar energy. He further requested approval for the remaining two medical colleges under the PPP model to enhance medical education and healthcare services in the state.
The Chief Minister also urged support for establishing a sports university and centers of excellence in Jharkhand, along with hosting national and international sporting events. He highlighted the need for streamlining land-related procedures to facilitate social infrastructure development in districts falling under central PSUs operational areas.
