Jhazaribagh Police have apprehended eight individuals linked to the killing of Suraj Kumar Rana, who was murdered after a disagreement over loud music during New Year’s festivities in Hazaribagh. The incident, occurring on January 1, involved Suraj being brutally assaulted with various weapons, leading to his immediate death and another individual sustaining severe injuries.
The violent episode incited public outcry, prompting hundreds to march on January 2, carrying the victim’s body and staging a demonstration demanding prompt action. Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan of Hazaribagh revealed that the murder was a retaliatory act following a clash over loud music in the Kolghati locality.
Reportedly, the assailants launched the attack on Suraj near Indrapuri Chowk around 10 p.m. on January 1. A murder case was filed at the Lohsinghna police station based on a complaint by the victim’s wife, Kajal Kumari. In response to the seriousness of the situation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the SP’s directive, conducting raids in various locations based on technical and intelligence inputs.
The primary suspects, namely Rahul Kumar, Roshan Kumar, and Deepak Kumar, were apprehended from Sector-126 in Noida and transported to Hazaribagh on transit remand. Subsequently, following revelations during interrogation, four more suspects were arrested from Pipradih village under the Barkagaon police station area. Adequate evidence has been amassed against all the accused, with efforts underway to remand them to judicial custody, along with the recovery of the weapons used in the crime.
