Jharkhand police have intensified efforts in the investigation of the murder of Himanshu Singh, a young leader linked to the Karni Sena in Jamshedpur. Rahul Dubey, an absconding accused, surrendered at the Bistupur police station on Friday, increasing the total arrests to 12 in the case. The police had been conducting extensive operations to locate and apprehend the remaining fugitives.
Amidst ongoing police raids and legal actions, Rahul Dubey decided to turn himself in to the authorities. The number of arrested suspects sent to judicial custody has now reached 12, with police continuing their efforts to capture the remaining absconders. Earlier, police had arrested various individuals, including the owner of Double Down Bar and BJP leader Neeraj Singh, and bar manager Vijay Kumar, who were subsequently jailed.
Vishwanath Mandal, also known as Bodra and the prime accused in the case, surrendered before the Jamshedpur Civil Court. He had a bounty of Rs 2 lakh on his head. Sharp-edged weapons like choppers, axes, and knives used in the crime were recovered from the arrested individuals. The incident occurred on June 27 outside Double Down Bar in Bistupur, where Himanshu Singh was allegedly assaulted with sharp weapons, leading to his demise.
According to reports, Himanshu Singh and his companion objected to the harassment of women by a group of youths inside the bar, resulting in a confrontation. Himanshu sought refuge inside a police PCR vehicle but was dragged out by the attackers in front of police personnel and attacked with sharp weapons. The incident raised concerns about policing and law enforcement in the city, prompting administrative actions against several police officials by the Jharkhand government.
