The J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau has lodged a chargesheet against Nisar Ahmad Wani, a former senior fireman with the Fire & Emergency Services in Sopore. The chargesheet was filed in the court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Baramulla, in connection with a bribery case. The case, registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, followed a complaint alleging illegal gratification demanded by Wani for issuing a Fire Safety No Objection Certificate.
The complaint accused Wani of taking Rs 1,500 for application-related expenses and later demanding Rs 5,000 under false pretenses. The ACB, after discreet verification, conducted a trap operation where Wani was caught accepting the bribe. The tainted money was recovered from him, and forensic tests confirmed his involvement.
Following due process, Wani was arrested, released on bail, and now faces prosecution under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The ACB emphasizes its dedication to fighting corruption and encourages the public to report any instances of bribery or corrupt activities.
