Srinagar, May 2 (IANS) Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district said that they have demolished property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler.

A police statement said on Saturday that in a major crackdown against the drug menace, Anantnag Police demolished an illegally acquired property worth approximately Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Sajad Rather, a resident of Waghama Bijbehara.

The action was carried out as part of the ongoing intensified campaign against narcotics trafficking and to dismantle the financial networks of drug peddlers operating in the district.

Officials said that the property had been identified as illegally acquired through proceeds generated from drug-related activities.

Acting under relevant provisions of law, the police, in coordination with civil administration, executed the demolition after completing all necessary legal formalities.

The action sends a strong message to individuals involved in drug trafficking that unlawful assets will not be tolerated and will be dealt with strictly. Anantnag Police reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society and urged the public to come forward with any information related to drug peddling.

Authorities emphasised that such decisive measures will continue in the future to ensure a drug-free and safe environment for the community.

Under the 100-day-long ‘Nasha Mukht Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan’, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the campaign last month. The L-G said drugs were intended to destroy the entire future generation, and anti-drug campaigns must be carried out with public support.

He also directed the cancellation of the Aadhaar card, driving licence, passport and attachment of property created through the unlawful activity.

Police and the security forces carry out anti-drug operations in the hinterland, while the army and the border security force (BSF) carry out operations in border areas.

Jammu and Kashmir has 740-km long LoC and 240-km long international border.
