Srinagar, Aug 13 (IANS) The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday approved Rs 18.60 crore for three major heritage conservation projects in the Union Territory (UT).
An official statement said that the Jammu and Kashmir government has approved three major heritage conservation projects worth Rs 18.60 crore across the Union Territory, aimed at preserving historical sites and promoting heritage-led tourism.
The office of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on social media platform X said, “The Government has approved three major heritage conservation projects worth Rs 18.60 Crore. These initiatives include: Uttervehini Heritage, Samba (Rs 6.86 Cr): Restoration and revival of old heritage structures.”
“Basohli Fort, Kathua (Rs 6.50 Cr): Repair, beautification, and renovation of the historic fort.”
“Nallah Soundbrari Spring, Anantnag (Rs 5.24 Cr): Revival and restoration of the Yatri Niwas and beautification of the water spring.”
“These projects celebrate Jammu and Kashmir’s rich history while opening new avenues for heritage-led tourism across the UT,” the office of Chief Minister added.
The UT government said the projects are aimed at preserving Jammu and Kashmir’s rich historical and cultural heritage while opening new avenues for heritage-led tourism across the Union Territory.
Jammu and Kashmir features prominent historical heritage sites spanning ancient architectural ruins, Mughal gardens, and medieval forts.
The other historical heritage sites in Jammu and Kashmir include the Martand Sun temple in Anantnag district, which is an awe-inspiring eighth-century stone temple built by King Lalitaditya Muktapida, showcasing classic ancient Kashmiri architecture.
The Pari Mahal in Srinagar, which is seven-terraced garden overlooking the Dal Lake, originally built as an astrological school and residence for Mughal Prince Dara Shikoh.
Hari Parbat Fort in Srinagar is the 16th-century fortress on a hilltop in Srinagar enclosed by a stone wall built by Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Parihaspora archaeological ruins in Srinagar represent ruins of ancient capital city structures, stupas, and chaityas dating back to the Karkota dynasty.
Babu Fort in Jammu is an ancient fort overlooking the Tawi river, originally constructed more than 3,000 years ago and later renovated by the Dogra rulers.
Mubarak Mandi Palace in Jammu is a heritage with a sprawling royal palace complex reflecting a blend of Rajasthani, Mughal, and European architectural styles.
Akhnoor Fort in Jammu is a picturesque 19th-century fort situated on the high banks of the Chenab river with striking watch towers.
