The Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) have confirmed their involvement in US airstrikes targeting IS locations in Syria. The operation, conducted in collaboration with the United States, aimed to prevent extremist groups from using the areas as bases to threaten Syria’s neighboring countries and the wider region. The US military carried out strikes on over 70 suspected IS-linked targets in central Syria in response to an attack that resulted in the deaths of two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter. The operation, supported by fighter aircraft from the JAF, utilized more than 100 precision munitions to target known IS infrastructure and weapons sites. Syria has reaffirmed its commitment to combating ISIS and ensuring it has no safe havens on Syrian soil. The country has pledged to escalate military operations against the group wherever it poses a threat. Following an ambush by an IS gunman in Syria on December 13 that claimed the lives of two US service members and one US civilian, US and partner forces conducted operations resulting in the deaths or detentions of 23 terrorist operatives. The IS, despite losing most of its territory in Syria and Iraq, continues to pose a security threat in the region through insurgent attacks.
