Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for tourism projects worth over Rs 67 crore in North Gujarat on March 31. The projects, aligned with the state government’s plan for ‘Gujarat Tourism Year’ in 2026, aim to enhance tourism infrastructure. Locations like Rani ki Vav, Vadnagar, and Balaram will see a blend of heritage conservation with modern visitor facilities and technology-driven experiences.
At Rani ki Vav, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a light and sound show with projection mapping has been developed at a cost of around Rs 18 crore. This initiative intends to showcase the historical narrative of Queen Udayamati and traditional water management systems through modern visual techniques. In Vadnagar, a water screen projection show at Sharmishtha Lake has been created to depict historical water-conservation practices and the town’s past through light and sound effects on the water surface.
Development works worth approximately Rs 25 crore are underway at Balaram Mahadev Temple and Vishweshwar Mahadev Temple in Banaskantha district. These projects include construction and upgrading of ghats, parking facilities, entrance gateways, internal roads, gazebos, and food kiosks to enhance visitor amenities and accessibility while preserving the sites’ religious and natural significance. The state government’s broader tourism development plan encompasses upgrading heritage sites, enhancing connectivity, developing coastal areas, and improving visitor services.
